This past weekend I participated in the inaugural event for Marathon Swim Series.
It was a beautiful day to be outdoors with the family, although the weather was warm, there was a slight wind, and the water was bloody cold!
A little disappointed in the turnout, though…
Distance : 1km, 500m
Weather : Sunny, with a slight breeze.
Parking : Plenty of secure parking
Organisation : WHC Learn 2 Swim were the organisers of this swim series. I found them very professional on all the platforms they have a presence. Entry was straightforward, and cost just below average.
Marshalling : The marshals were helpful throughout the swim route
Medals : Plenty of medals to go around for the main distances. The look of the medal was different from what we normally get, nice one! For the Fun Swim, we got ribbons for our effort, and interesting change 🙂 we could get either a white or black one. Not sure if I like it or not… different, though.
Overall : From the time I first saw information about the series, the organisers were very engaging with the public. Answered all questions and provided valuable information leading up to the event.
The venue was very relaxed and the swims mostly started on time. If it wasn’t for the wind, the day would have been super awesome! According to my watch, the Fun Swim was shorter than advertised, but not a biggie, I am sure Swim #2 will be even better.
The water was extremely cold, but most of us managed it with no wetsuit. I liked that the organisers interacted with the different participants and families.
Gauteng doesn’t have too many open water swimming events, so let’s support the Marathon Swim Series. They have a few more events planned before the year ends. Great opportunity to get some mileage before Midmar next year. Check out the other events.
