Race Review : Irene Ultra 21 2017

Race ReviewThese are my thoughts on the race…

I don’t recall having run this race before.

It was another early start for me, 3:30 AM I was up and getting ready to drive through to Centurion.

OMG! Traffic jam the minute you got off the highway! No! No! No! Unacceptable that many spent at least 30 – 60 minutes making their way to the starting area and still had to find parking. As it turned out, the race started 28 minutes late, 6 AM start for the Ultra and 21.1km marathons. When we were almost the 2km mark, there were still runners making their way to the start of the race. Unacceptable!

Race Review : OM DIE DAM 2017

Race ReviewThese are my thoughts on the race…

I last ran Om Die Dam in 2015, last year I decided not to take part after the poor organisation of the event.

This year after reading all the race’s PR on the race I decided I would attempt the race this year.

Race Review : SARENS 21 2017

Race ReviewThese are my thoughts on the race…

This year I decided to run Sarens¬†21km for the first time. I’d heard about the race and how tough it was.

It was a pretty early start …

Race Review : Deloitte Pretoria Race 2017

Race ReviewThese are my thoughts on the race…

Early Sunday morning for us again… I think our bodies are getting used to it now. The road to the start of the race was unusually misty, this just meant us being a little more cautious on the road to the start.

We arrived with 30 minutes to spare.

Start of the race was a little chaotic today. Just before the start of the race, runners, haven’t seen it at the cycling events, but yes at swimming, we want to make sure we’ve removed any extra liquids from our body. Around the 10k holding area there Continue reading

Race Review : Bidvest McCarthy Toyota 34th Half Marathon

Race ReviewThese are my thoughts on the race…

For the last two years I’ve meant to run this race but just never got round to it. This year I was up at 3 AM and made my way to Pretoria.

Having never run this race before I had no idea where I was going, so was reliant on my navigator to get me there.

I arrived with plenty of time before my race start time of 06:30 AM

2017 Fitness Goals

Fit Dad

The first month of 2017 is almost over and I haven’t yet updated my blog.

2017 is going to be my “comeback” year! Yes, after not being extremely active in 2016 compared to 2015, let’s just say that I can see the effect this had on me physically.

To make sure I didn’t come up with excuses, last year I started entering races I wanted to take part in this year. With the entering of races comes the need for training.

I want to be able to finish the races comfortably and not struggle through them.  Continue reading

Race Review : Dis-Chem 21 2017

Dischem21 2017These are my thoughts on the race…

Having learnt from last year, I was up at 3am and on the road by 4am so that I could secure a parking close to the start of the race.

I’ve run this race three years in a row now. The first one I ran with Darren, the second although alone, I had travelled to the race with mates, so technically as it is a 21.1km race only, excluding the Fun Run, I wasn’t alone.

This year my third Dis-Chem 21 I drove myself and basically ran without any mates around, and found it boring! I know you’re on a mission, but for me, I realised that having a mate to talk during the 21km is a bonus!
